Fall Brown Blitz on the Chattahoochee River

Fri, 10/16/2015 - 15:11 -- jmaslar

The Chattahoochee River consists of 48 river miles of designated trout water in a park managed by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources and the National Park Service. The rich cold waters that feed the Hooch, as it is called by the locals, provide a great environment for brown trout and the best part is that it so close to the metropolitan area of Atlanta, Georgia.

The River Through Atlanta guide service team headed by Chris Scally, has noted that as the weather cooled off and as days got shorter, more and better quality browns are being caught during this Autumn spawning ritual. Chris said “There is nothing more exhilarating then the jolt of a violent strike of a territorial brown which we term the "FALL-BROWN-BLITZ"! We will also experience some great nymph fishing with larger more gaudy flies. The blue-winged-olive mayflies will be consistently hatching in the afternoons and early evenings triggering some great dry fly opportunities so be sure to  pack your favorite light weight  "pet fly rod" 2 to 4weight fly rods are ideal if it's not too windy. Remember for the most life like imitations of the blue-winged-olive fly pattern as well as other flies just take a look at the Perfect Flies from Troutprostore.

The Hooch also provides some excellent duck hunting. A guided package of duck hunting and trout fishing known as "BLAST&CAST" is available at River Through Atlanta.
