We spent last Saturday at Wilderness At The Smokies Resort in Sevierville, Tennessee, beating the winter cold and enjoying the indoor water park. The resort features a rustic, lodge-like feel to it, at least two large buildings with several hundred rooms, an outdoor water park, an indoor water park, a miniature golf course, and convenience to all the attractions in Sevierville, Pigeon Forge, and Galinburg, Tennessee.
The indoor water park, with its comfortable tropical temperature, features a wave pool, toddler pool, children's pool with playhouse (complete with the gigantic bucket that spills every 5 minutes or so), a surfing station, spacious indoor/outdoor hot tub, and 4 water slides. If you're tough enough, be sure to ride the slide through the giant funnel visible from the front of the resort.
There is one restaurant in each of the two main buildings, serving basically the same menu. Shuttle buses running continuously will take you from one building to the other, late into the evening.
The resort, which is just 6.5 miles from I-40 in Sevierville, could also serve the trout fisherman as a family friendly base camp for fishing the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. While the family is having a blast at the resort and/or all the attractions in the neighboring towns, the trout fisherman can escape to several nearby fishing locations in the national park.
