Lake Placid and the West Branch AuSable River

Fri, 07/09/2010 - 17:00 -- jmaslar

Lake Placid is famous for having had the winter Olympics and many other outdoor sports, but it is also the home of the West Fork of the AuSable River known for lunker trout. The best part is that it is only a five hour scenic drive from New York City. The West Branch of the AuSable starts high on the south side of Mt. Marcy, which is about 4,000 feet high and is the highest peak in the Adirondacks. It continues some 30 miles through some of the most scenic areas of the state. The trout fishing is awesome due to its rich, cold, clear waters. A great map of the area is provided by the  New York State Department of Environmental Conservation. Also, for anyone interested in trout fishing the West Fork of the AuSable River, there is a great deal of detailed information available at TroutU.
