Mon, 05/18/2009 - 09:31 -- jmaslar

Our Granddaughter, Emma went fishing in Old Forge North Carolina over the weekend and she collected a tick which was removed this morning.  However, it important to point out that ticks become active in the early spring and summer.  The bites can carry some serious diseases like Lyme's Disease or Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever.  It is said that the ticks are most serious if they remain in your skin for six hours or more.

So, this is a reminder for all you fishermen out there be aware of the tick season and wear protective clothing.  Ticks start usually at the bottom near the feet.  Keep your pants tucked into your socks and your shirts tucked in at the waist.  As soon as you are home, take a shower checking your body completely.
