Tie-One-On-A-Thon

We went up to Asheville, NC this past weekend to take part in a great event to help Project Healing Waters, a non-profit organization dedicated to the emotional and physical healing of wounded military personnel.  The second Tie-One-On-A-Thon featured a number of fly tyers from around the region, coming together for one full day of fly tying, and donating the flies to local fly shops to sell.  The proceeds will then go to Project Healing Waters.

This was a very interesting event, with a variety of flies being tied.  We saw everything from worm patterns to Clousers to Japanese beetles to tiny dry flies to streamers and nymphs galore to carp flies.  It was great to meet and talk to many of the fly tyers, and talk tying and fishing with them.

The event, which was held in an art studio near downtown Asheville, also featured door prizes from local fly fishing shops and lunch for those willing to donate.  Your entrance ticket (the proceeds of which went to Project Healing Waters) also allowed you to enter your name for door prizes.  The event was partially hosted by Southern Culture On The Fly online magazine.

In addition to supporting a great cause, I came away with an appreciation for networking events with other fly fishermen.  If you get a chance, every once in a while, get out to an event like this and learn something new from other fly fishers.  I'm glad I did.
