Brown Drake Nymph
Brown Drake Mayfly Nymph:
When the hatch starts, the nymphs will leave their burrows, and swim to the surface hanging just below the surface skim where they shed their nymphal shuck. As they float, they rapidly dry their wings drifting a very short distance in the calm water before flying away. As previously mentioned the hatches start just before dark and continue into the night. Hatches usually last only a few days.
Presentation:
Fish the Perfect Fly brown drake nymph imitation just prior to a hatch. Apply weight to the tippet just a few inches above the nymph fly and slowly strip the line in small short bursts across the stream bottom. Remember you are trying to mimic the eratic actions of the actual nymph. You can expect to hook some browns with this method but it does take some practice as well as some time. The action will not be fast but the rewards can be excellent. Also, note that trout eat far more nymphs than they do duns or spinners.
