Eastern Pale Evening Dun Emerger

Emerger:
They usually hatch in the afternons when the weather is sunny. However, clouds may vary the time but it is usually between 1:00 and 4:00 P. M.

When the Eastern Pale Evening Dun nymphs are ready to emerge and shed their nymphal shucks, they swim to the surface. During this time they are helpless and the most vulnerable to the hungry trout.

Emerger Presentation:

The Perfect Fly Eastern Pale Evening Imitations should be presented in the surface skim of the shallow, slower moving water adjacent to the riffles and runs where the crawler nymphs are found. The plain emerger more closely resembles the nymph while the emerger with the trailing shuck more closely resembles the dun. However, both will take trout more frequently than the dun. They float level with the surface skim of the water and are much more difficult to see and to detect the trout strike. The trailing shuck version is easier to see than the plain
emerger, so if you're experience difficulty seeing the plain emerger fly, switch to the trailing shuck emerger fly.

As already stated with the duns, the nymphs live in moderately flowing water like long suns, riffles or pocket water. An up and across presentation same as with the dun can often be used but a down and across on the swing presentation is often the best way deliver the fly to feeding trout. The up and across presentation will be more effective if the water surface is broken, but if the surface is smooth, a down and across presentation will be more productive. Here again, a long leader with a 5X or 6X tippet is recommended.
