Our Story

The Perfect Fly Fly Rod Story:

Our business model when we formed the "Perfect Fly" company was to provide the angler with everything needed from the butt of the fly rod to the flies on the end of the tippet. We did not want the fly rod to be something to just get us started. Indeed we wanted our fly rod to be the best fly rod manufactured by anyone. We did not anticipate the enormity of the challenge! The development of this magnificent rod took almost two years longer than we could have forseen.and now after almost two years of development it is ready. However, we believe that it was well worth the effort and we believe that you will agree also.

First, you can not develop a truly "top of the line" fly rod if you are overly influenced by cost. Obviously cost is an important factor, however it can not be the controlling factor. Most fly rod manufactory are governed by cost and that is why they come out with a "series" of fly rods instead of just one which is the best for its intended purpose. They want to spread their development cost over a series of rods.

We are always concerned about the cost but quality is far more important to us. This is the same philosophy that governed the design of our "Perfect Flies" which has become a great success among anglers. If we were to sell our flies through the normal distribution channels, that is a distributor, then a fly shop, the cost would be much higher. Likewise, our rods would be much higher if we used the normal distribution channels.

It has always been our intention to make our flies, gear and equipment directly available to the consumer.

Almost all other fly rods are sold through factory representatives, or salesmen, distributors, and retailers who all must make a profit. This drives up the retail price to the consumer by double or more!

Orvis has been utilizing direct selling for some time however, they must maintain a price "umbrella" that does not undersell its Orvis dealers. With "Perfect Fly" we have no obligations to anyone except our customers and therefore we can pass the savings on to our customers.

Brick and Mortar Stores

With the internet, times have changed greatly and customers need not go to the traditional shop to purchase their fly fishing gear. (Ever heard about Amazon) In order to compete in today's market place fly shops are increasingly turning to online sales. However, they still must carry the overhead of the brick and mortor store and their online price will reflect that. That is why our direct from the manufacturer online store provides the best affordable price.
