Chancellor Steve

Steve:  Steve was born in Upstate New York but moved to North Carolina very soon in life.  He has a natural love and kindred with the trout, and has been accused of thinking like a trout. He specializes in fly fishing for the wild trout found in the mountains with a particular fondness for brown trout. Stephen has been trout fishing throughout the Southern States, Colorado and Alaska.  Stephen has a healthy respect for the environment, and property rights as well as the well being of the trout and their habitat.  Obviously, he practices "catch and release".

He specializes in "special ops" fly fishing, having developed the caneing, slingshot and other casts suitable for small NC streams. Additionally, he has experience using imitation lures used for lunkers in larger streams and rivers. He has been instrumental in locating the habitat and developing the tools used to harvest hellgrammites (shown in our curriculum section), which are the culinary equivalent of potato chips for trout.

Favorite trout fishing destinations: Smoky Mountains, Stone Mountain State Park, Slickrock Creek, Tuckaseege River.
