The Skawla Stonefly Nymphs are agile so they are able to avoid being eaten while they are on the bottom. However, they are not good swimmers, so they crawl to the banks or rocks or boulders to hatch. This migration is when they are more vulnerable for the trout to eat them.

Presentation:

As with most hatches, the best time to use the nymph imitation is just prior to the start of the actual hatch. Cast to the shallower, calmer water near the banks where the nymphs are crawling out of the water to hatch. Use an up and across cast into the fast water of runs and riffles. Allow the fly to swing all the way around to a downstream position and when the fly gets to the full downstream position, bring the rod tip back to allow the fly to move all the way to the bank where you will get most of the strikes.
