The tiger trout is a hatchery-produced hybrid. It is a cross between a male Brown Trout and a female Brook Trout. They have a yellowish orange belly and have the stripes of a tiger, and hence, the name. They have a vigorous appetite and like to prey on smaller fish found in shallow waters; and this has made them a favorite among anglers.
Thank you to all at Troutu for making me part of the team. Other than my family and church, Trout fishing is my major passion. I love just about every type of active sport, but this one is the most unique and rewarding. Learning is something we should do every day of our lives, hopefully I will be able to pass some of my knowledge on to others as well as gain some through the terrific family that is being created here at Troutu. I fish to get away, to enjoy the beauty that God has created for us...catching fish is a huge bonus!
It is with great pleasure that we at Troutu welcome Tom Rosenbauer to our staff as adjunct professor. Tom has been a fly fisher for over 35 years and was a commercial fly tier by age 14. Tom's impressive credentials include 27 years with the Orvis Company, where he is now Marketing Director for Orvis Rod and Tackle.
I was shocked today, while searching the internet, to find out that there is trout fishing in Hawaii. How come no one ever told me? Yes, even the tropical state of Hawaii offers some rainbow trout fishing. The first rainbow trout delivered to Hawaii were in 1920. The Hawaii state record is a 5lb, 9 oz rainbow trout. Yes, The Fly Fishing Show will be held in Charlotte January 30 &31. There will be over 50 seminars, and demonstrations daily including fly tying exibitions. Also, there will be classes with celebrity experts and much more. The show will be held in the Charlotte Merchandise Mart which is large enough to house a "hands on" casting pond called "Big Flats".
