5 Best Montana Rivers

Fri, 07/24/2009 - 10:36 -- jmaslar

I was reading an article about the 5 Montana Rivers to try on a budget.  The article entitled "Fishing the West, on a budget, on your own. Five rivers to try" by By Dennis Anderson was published in the Minneapolis St Paul Star Tribune and in it Dennis explains how to approach and how to fish the rivers without spending a great deal of money.   In all instances guides are available, but Dennis has suggestions for going it on your own.

Tue, 07/21/2009 - 10:23 -- jmaslar

Saturday, I had the great pleasure of attending the first ever South Holston Fly Fishing Fest held at River’s Way Outdoor Adventure Center which is located near Bluff City TN.  In addition to promoting fly fishing, the Fest served as a fund-raiser for River’s Way, a non-profit operation that provides retreats for the purpose of teaching team building and leadership skills to disadvantaged children.

Thingamabobber Strike Indicator

Sat, 07/11/2009 - 09:04 -- jmaslar

When I was fishing in Florida using live shad for bait, I often used colorful baloons as bobbers or "strike indicators".  When the baloons would move rapidly over the surface of the water, that would indicate that the bait was being pursued by a bass, and when the baloon was starting to go under the water, I would set the hook.

Trout University Adds More Photos

Sat, 07/11/2009 - 09:35 -- jmaslar

We at the Trout University have not been taking our camera along on fishing trips and we are going to correct that.  However, in the mean time, we have added a few more pictures to our site and you may want to check them out.  We included pictures of the scenery, the staff, the students and the trout as well.  We hope that you will enjoy them, and keep tuned as we try to improve our photography.

Trout Fishing in Tailwaters

Thu, 07/09/2009 - 16:22 -- jmaslar

Trout fishing in the summer can be difficult in the Mountains of the Southeastern USA due to low water levels and the resultant stress on the trout populations.  Trout can be stressed and endangered by low water levels that do not provide cover from predators and warm water that does not provide the oxygen levels necessary to sustain the trout populations.  We have seen some bad drought conditions in the last two or three years.
