Trout Fishing in New Jersey

Mon, 03/16/2009 - 13:20 -- jmaslar

A fisherman contacted our web site http://www.troutprostore.com/ requesting information about trout fishing in New Jersey and pennsylvania.  I have some friends who have fished the Pennsylvania waters and just one friend who had fished the New Jersey waters near the Deleware Water Gap.  Of course, I have emailed them for more individual information and I am waiting for a reply.  In the meantime, I have discovered that a lot of factors have combined to make New Jersey a great trout fishing success story.  Many of the streams that course down and th

Fishing Car

Fri, 03/13/2009 - 06:40 -- smaslar

Every serious fisher needs a fishing car.  That's right -- a fishing car.  Not a car that fishes , but one that can be packed up with fishing gear in a moment's notice (or is already packed up), you don't have to worry about getting covered in mud or leaving old french fries in the seat, and that either gets good gas mileage (depending on how far you live from the trout stream) or has 4WD capabilities (depending on how hard it is to get to the trout stream).  Oh yeah, cup holders and a good map light would be nice.  A radio is optional.  The most important feature of a fishing car is that y

Hot Trout Fisherman? Try some real competition!

If you think that you can cut it, try your skill in casting and fly-fishing competition.  The Pisgah Fly Masters challenges anglers’ casting skills off-stream on Saturday, March 21, with the 10 finalists moving on to a catch and release competition on the river on Sunday, March 22. The event, held in Brevard, is in its second year, and the proceeds will go to benefit the Pisgah Center for Wildlife Education, a free-to-the-public learning facility operated by the N.C.

Trout Fishing On The Horsepasture River

Mon, 03/09/2009 - 22:05 -- smaslar

A few weeks ago in late February, troutu student Matthew and I went on an exploratory trout fishing trip on the Horsepasture River in North Carolina.  While the Horsepasture River boasts the North Carolina state record rainbow trout, caught in a private section of the river, we fished the portion on public land just above Lake Jocassee near Gorges State Park.  We only saw two trout, but Matthew caught one of them -- shown on the video: a nice, fat 17" rainbow.  Also, we saw a number of impressive waterfalls.

Orvis Warehouse Sale in Charlotte.

Fri, 03/06/2009 - 13:31 -- jmaslar

Orvis has announced the Warehouse sale again this year.  Last year, I purchased waders and some shoes while there, as I am a real cheapo.  The shoes were orig over $200, but they were on sale for $70, so after a great deal of deliberation and sweaty palms, I purchased them.  They were indeed, very durable hand sewn moc type shoes.  I was delighted with my find, and clever shopping, until I realized there was a little bump in the hand stitching that hurt my foot.  Blast it all, there goes my perceived savings and I hate to be bamboozled.

Trout Fishing in the Winter With Proper Clothes

Thu, 03/05/2009 - 15:07 -- jmaslar
  1. Be sure that you dress in layers.   I use fleece garmets because they are warm, light and can be discarded if you fall in.
  2. Fleece igarments are easy to remove and pack if you become too warm.
  3. If fly fishing, it is adviseable to wear shirts with pockets for fly boxes, etc.
  4. In cold weather it is adviseable to wear insulated underware.
  5. In warm weather, wear light airey clothes that breathe.
  6. Expect rain especially if fishing in the mountains as thunder storms arise quickly.  I keep a "rain parker in a pouch" tied to my waist.
